WrestleMania 28 Predictions
March 27, 2012
WrestleMania time again so it's time for my annual WrestleMania prediction commentary. I'm hoping to get back up above 500 or better after a couple of really bad years. My per year prediction rate thus far is:
Mania 22: 63%
Mania 23: 63%
Mania 24: 44%
Mania 25: 50%
Mania 26: 20%
Mania 27: 37%
It's painfully clear I have no inside scoops; so far over the past 6 years I've averaged just slightly below the prediction percentage of a coin flip, with a 46% accuracy. This is pretty sad, but looking at the lineup this year, I think my chances of getting back above 500 are pretty good.
The Rock vs. John Cena:
I've gone back and forth on this one and all the rumors I've heard about Rock sticking around for a possible rematch hasn't helped things any. My original thought was Cena wins, but then with Rock possibly (rumors only) doing a rematch, letting Rock win in Miami makes more sense to build to a rematch. All that said I'm going with my first instinct and picking John Cena for the win. Rock is a draw no matter what and not around much, Cena is the face of WWE and the loss could hurt his drawing power. I think WWE will play it safe. Cena wins.
The Undertaker vs. HHH:
I think this will be the match of the night and also one of the easiest to pick. I'm not ever betting against the streak, so I'm picking The Undertaker to win here.
CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho:
This should also be an awesome match and quite probably a better wrestling match than HIAC but with all the extra drama of the cell and HBK this one will only be 2nd best of the night IMO. I'm picking Punk to retain although I've been on the fence about this one. I'm basing this off my prediction in the World Title match which usually comes back to bite me in the ass. Punk retains.
Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus:
As I mentioned in the Jericho match that prediction is based off this one. I'm picking Sheamus to win the title here and don't think they want to switch both titles on the same show. If they just switch the one it makes Sheamus's win look more significant. Sheamus wins here and becomes World Champ.
Cody Rhodes vs. The Big Show:
This match is a tough one to call. The way it is build up I can't see them beating Show but I would not put the IC Title on Big Show. To that end I'm predicting the Cody retains the title but Big Show wins. This way Cody can keep the title and they can even extend the feud somewhat by Cody claiming Big Show still "failed" at Mania despite Big Show getting the win. Trying to be this specific decreased my chances of being right so for the official pick I'm just saying Show wins, with the other details just there for the entertainment value of it.
Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny:
What a bunch of misfits this match features. When you look at how these guys have been pushed or treated over the last few months what a lack luster bunch. Team Johnny: Otunga seldom wrestles and is more known for his coffee cup. Miz, and Drew have been absolutely buried and not won a match between them in months. Mark Henry has been jobbed out since he lost the title. Swagger and Dolph while being featured lose way more often than they win. Team Teddy: Ryder has been presented as a complete geek for months. Kahli hasn't done anything important in years and lost on RAW in 1 minute. Santino while pushed is more of a comedy act that is not presented as actually being any good. R-Truth has not been pushed since he was a heel in the fall. Kofi while featured somewhat and great is the face side equivalent of Ziggler in that he is featured but seldom wins. Booker T in my opinion is the biggest star in this match, in that he is really good, viewed as a star, and not done any jobs of late. All of that said I'm hoping this match will be used to rehab Mark Henry and get some steam back on him. I'm picking Team Johnny for the win.
Kelly & Maria vs. Eve & Beth:
With no title on the line I can't see them jobbing out the celebrity in this match. They could always pin Kelly but what does that really accomplish. I think just a happy short match with the Kelly and Maria winning. Let's just hope if they interview Maria she's all serious and we won't have to listen to her annoying laugh.
Randy Orton vs. Kane:
I think this match is one of the safer picks, I think Kane is a substitution for the injured Wade Barrett, and unless they want to drag this program out until he gets back I don't see any reason why Randy doesn't pick up the clean win here. Randy wins.
Those are my thoughts, hopefully they won't change the card any between now and then. Have a great WrestleMania weekend everyone. I hope to see many of you at Show Down in the Sun for ROH on Friday.
