WrestleMania Prediction Results

April 4, 2012

I want to jump right into things, but before I start I need to make it clear that I haven't as yet seen WrestleMania 28, so this will strictly be a results recap. I will see the show eventually but I did not attend or watch the show on Sunday. I did attend the HOF ceremony but I opted to visit my Mom on Sunday (she has a place in Cape Coral, Florida) so after the HOF I drove to the other coast to spend Sunday with my Mom, rather than stay and attend WrestleMania.

Going into this show I had a prediction percentage of 46% which is not good but this year I turned things around with my best prediction results yet; lets get to it.

Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus: I certainly didn't expect this match to go as short but I did pick Sheamus to win and he did so I am 1-0 right out of the gate. I do feel bad for these guys though, they have been booked for a WrestleMania match 2 years in a row now and have only managed to do 1 kick on the big stage. I guess there is always next year.

Randy Orton vs. Kane: I picked Orton for the win here which was not to be. Kane picked up the win. That said I think this was more a swerve than anything else when you consider (SPOILER ALERT) Orton gets a rematch on SM this week and they have a much longer, much better match with the result I originally predicted. I claim a moral victory in this one but I do officially slip to 1-1.

Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show: I didn't expect Big Show to walk away with the title but I did pick him to win and he did so while this may not have been a home run pick for me but a win is a win and I move to 2-1.

Kelly Kelly & Maria Menounos vs. Beth Phoenix & Eve: Celebrities seldom come in to do jobs so I picked the good guys (or good gals, if you will) to win this one and they did, so I'm on a roll and move to 3-1.

The Undertaker vs. HHH: I don't think they are ever going to beat the Streak so as long as Taker keeps wrestling at Mania I should have at least one sure thing pick. I picked Taker to win and he delivered, I'm now 4-1.

Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny: On the bus back from the HOF I actually sat beside Teddy and joked that I would have been on Team Teddy if he'd have called. I picked Team Johnny to win, which they did, although I was hoping for Mark Henry to pick up the win and Miz did instead. Either way Team Johnny wins and I'm up to 5-1 and feeling pretty damn good.

CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho: There were a lot of people figuring Jericho for the win here but I bet against my good buddy and went with Punk. Punk retained and I move to an Amazing Kreskin like 6-1.

John Cena vs. The Rock: The logical bet here was Cena which is who I picked to win, but the emotional favourite won out with The Rock picking up a huge win to the delight of the Mania crowd. I picked the Main event wrong but rounded out the night 6-2 with a personal best 75% accuracy rate. If they hadn't decided to swerve us on the Orton match I'd have actually reached an 88% accuracy rate, missing only the Main Event. So the official tale of the tape from the 7 years I've been doing this now:

Mania 22: 63%
Mania 23: 63%
Mania 24: 44%
Mania 25: 50%
Mania 26: 20%
Mania 27: 38%
Mania 28: 75%
Average: 50%

After 7 long years or predictions and 21 years in the wrestling business I am no better or no worse that pure dumb luck and the flip of a coin. That's pretty sad. Oh well as I said to Daniel Bryan and Sheamus, there is always next year.

I hope to have another commentary up in a day or so covering my thoughts on the entire WrestleMania weekend, including my thoughts on the HOF and my tremendous experience at Showdown in the Sun with Ring of Honor.

If you haven't seen my match with Mike Bennett from ROH's Showdown in the Sun yet, it can been seen on Go Fight Live: Here
