Q and A
April 21, 2005
Q: What is your opinion on Masato Tanaka? Ever work with him, fan of his work at all?
A: I worked with Tanaka several times in ECW, and to the best of my recollection enjoyed it.
Q: You mentioned being flown out to Wrestlemania, is that fun for you or just the hassle of another flight?
A: I could have said no, so it was fun. I hadn’t seen a lot of the boys in a while so it was a good time.
Q: At an event where you are there, but not working, such as Wrestlemania, do you watch the show, or just catch up with the guys?
A: I was there more to see the guys than the show, but I did sit and watch the show, and thought it was real good.
Q: Is there any other job within WWE that you would ideally like to do?
A: I think I could be an excellent part of creative as a type of detail police. I’m a very detail conscious person who knows wrestling.
Q: How do you guys survive the lack of leg room on busses and planes? I'm only 6'1 and it makes travelling brutal for me.
A: I have short legs so it isn’t as bad for me. We basically just put up with it and are miserable.
Q: How hard is it to be polite to fans? Aren't there times when you just can't be bothered signing autographs?
A: There are times like this, which is why occasionally you hear stories about how rude some of the boys are. We can’t be on all the time despite our best efforts. We try.
Q: How important is it to "live your gimmick" and who are the best examples of it in the WWE?
A: I don’t think it is as important anymore. I think fans are beyond that with the Internet and the sheets, etc.
Q: I hear your back in the ring? How did your comeback match go?
A: I think it went well but I have a biased view. (LOL)
Q: Could you work in the WWE if you couldn't drive?
A: It would be a pain in the @$$ but if WWE wanted you they would find a way.
Q: What was the angle where you mopped up the WWE New York restaurant all about?
A: After the Alliance lost the Invasion, we were all fired, and I worked at the restaurant before finally earning my job back by defeating The Rock.
Q: I just checked out an old 1994 PWI, and in their ranking you were listed from "Memphis, Tennesse". What's the story behind that one?! Not proud of your Canadian heritage?
A: This is just an example of the care with which this publication is put together. I have never billed myself from Memphis, and at that time had never even been there. One magazine actually listed my hometown as: “Memphis, TN” and right under that listed my Catch Phrase as: “I’m from Calgary…Alberta, Canada”. A fine publication.
Q: Did you ever take a stinkface from Rikishi and if you have is it as bad as it looks.
A: I have had the dubious honour of receiving a ‘Stink Face’. It’s one of those things you just try not to think about.
Q: How do you keep your gear clean while you're travelling? Do you just give your stuff to someone at the shows who washes it for you? Is it just dirty until you get home? Do you hit up the hotel laundramat?
A: I always brought more than one pair of tights with me so I always had clean gear.
Q: Now that it's official (I got a WWE PPV calendar from Time Warner and it listed ECW One Night Stand on June 12th, with the ECW logo), do you think the Impact Players will reunite for the PPV, complete with Dawn Marie as your manager? Maybe face off with the Dudleys in a table match?
A: I have no idea what the creative plans are, but I will not work the show with out Dawn by my side, it would not be ECW Lance Storm without her.
Q: Compared to when u trained at the hart bros school, how are the people you train at OVW?
A: You can’t really compare the training. The Hart camp was training guys from scratch. Most of what I do here is polishing. Almost all of these guys have been working a while.
Q: You mentioned in a previous post that you are trying to fix your pelvic pain with pilates. What moves do you enjoy most/least? Do any other wrestlers you know do pilates or yoga?
A: I picked up a Pilates DVD and do a flexibility routine and an abdominal routine from it. Both have helped a lot. I needed to improve my core strength and this has helped considerably. I know DDP is a BIG proponent of Yoga.
Q: I have been watching wrestling for some time now, and have always wondered why when some wrestlers come to the ring they look like they have just poured a bucket of water over their heads. Is there a particular reason why they do this or is it just part of their "look".
A: They look like they dumped a bucket of water on their heads because that is likely what they did. Oiling your body highlights muscular definition. Some people find oiling up before a match makes them ‘blow up’ (become winded easier), so they use water. Water doesn’t stay on you long so they get wet right before going through the curtain.
Q: What are your thoughts on Bad News Brown (Allen)? I read that you thought he has a presence, but was he like?
A: Bad News most definitely has a presence, he is also a great guy who has been very nice to me over my career. I have nothing but respect for him.
Q: What are your thoughts of Abdullah the Butcher? I saw pics of you two together on your site.
A: I worked with Abby in Japan when we both worked for WAR. He is one of a kind. I worked a few single matches against him during that time period.
Q: I watched Barely Legal again after watched the Rise and Fall of ECW. Did RVD have any heat with you after the match for his post match promo or attitude or where you able to sympathise with him?
A: I really viewed it as something between him and Paul. I seldom found the time to ‘have heat’ with anyone.
Q: Have you ever faced Vampiro?
A: I never wrestled him, no.
Q: Did someone ever push you to lose your temper in the ring?
A: I’ve lost my temper twice during a match. Once with Boo Bradley (Balls from ECW) in SMW, when he twisted my left elbow during a match, trying something stupid. I cussed him out quite loudly in the ring at the time. I also got legit hot and my buddy Don Callis, during a match in Winnipeg once. I stiffed him real hard yelled at him and then we moved on.
Q: In your last Q&A you said WWE owns the line "If I can be serious for a minute". Does that bother you at all and would an author that had nothing to do with wrestling get sued for naming their book that?
A: It doesn’t bother me that they own it. That is the nature of the business. I am not sure of the legality of others using the line.
Q: What was your over all thoughts on Wrestlemania 21? Do you think that you could have brought something to the table?
A: I thought the show was real strong. I enjoyed it. I don’t see what I could have brought to the table for the card as it was. I don’t think I could have replaced any of the participants and added to the show.
Q: You said that you were looking foreward to the HBK-Angle match at Wrestlemania 21. Was the match everything you expected it to be?
A: I thought the match was awesome. I was very surprised at the clean tap-out finish. Hats off to both men!!!
Q: What the best advise you can give an indy worker right now? I just had my first match on April 9th. any help you can gie me would be great.
A: Worry about getting your match over, not getting yourself over.
Keep the questions coming,
